Property dealer held for raping ‘wife’ in Gurgaon

A property dealer was arrested here on a rape complaint filed by a woman with whom he had been living after their ‘marriage’ at a temple, police said Sunday.

Sanjay Kumar, 33, a native of Haryana’s Bhiwani district, was arrested from his house in Islampur on Sohna Road Saturday night after the 28-year-old woman lodged a rape complaint against him.

The woman said in her complaint that she had been working as an assistant at Sanjay Kumar’s property-dealing office on Sohna road for more than two years and he was raping her on the pretext of marriage, police said.

‘He also married the victim in a temple,’ an official said. The woman wanted to have a registered marriage with the accused but he was making excuses, the complaint said.

The accused was Sunday presented before a magistrate who sent him to judicial custody for 14 days, a police official said.
