After sustaining splinter injuries due to bombs being hurled at him, a promoter of Maniktala area has been undergoing treatment at a private nursing home on EM Bypass. Police are yet to ascertain how the promoter had received splinter injuries as they came to know in the course of investigation that the victim was carrying bombs while riding on his motorcycle during his return home.
The victim’s family members, however, claimed that some miscreants had chased him on a motorcycle and hurled bomb at him. As a result of this the promoter fell on the ground from his motorcycle.
The incident occurred on Canal East Road around 12.30 am Saturday night. The injured promoter Goutam Basak has been admitted to the hospital with serious condition. Police said that 53-year-old Basak, a local promoter had gone to one of his friend’s house for the immersion of Ganesh idol.
While he was returning home along Canal East Road, some miscreants chased him on a motorcycle and hurled bombs at him.
When Basak tried to escape, he received splinter injuries on various parts of his body. He somehow managed to reach his residence at Shanti Sen Lane. While he was entering his room in the second floor of the building some labourers who work under him and stay in the same house, found that his ears were bleeding profusely.
Police came to know in the course of investigation that the promoter was threatened by some persons a few days back asking him to stop construction of some projects that he was doing
in the area. Police suspect that the attack could be the fallout of that incident. Police have already talked to the family members of the victim in this connection. They told the police that some
miscreants might have tried to kill Basak.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry could have led to the incident. The investigating officers are yet to ascertain how the incident happened. Police are also investigating whether the victim was carrying bombs with him. A detailed probe has been initiated and raids are being conducted to nab the culprits.
