Private company employee shot at by miscreants

Miscreants shot at an employee of a private company on Saturday night at Hindustan Park of Asansol.

Police said that the victim, Joydeep Ganguly was returning home from office in an auto-rickshaw when the two miscreants came on a motorcycle and shot him from close range.

The local people rushed him to a nearby hospital with critical injuries on his body. After being informed, the senior police officers of the Asansol Commissionerate rushed to the spot and started an investigation.

At around 8.30 pm on Saturday, Ganguly was returning home in an auto-rickshaw when the vehicle reached the Hindustan Park, the two miscreants stopped his way and shot him from a point blank range. The victim received bullet injuries on his chest.

He was taken to Asansol District Hospital and later, shifted to a private hospital in Durgapur as his condition deteriorated.

Police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the attack. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry might have led to the incident. Police are interrogating the local residents and the family members of the victim to know if he had engaged in any quarrel with anybody in recent times. Police are also investigating if the victim had developed any rivalry with anybody in his workplace.

The incident triggered tension in the area as the miscreants attacked the youth in the busy evening hours. Local people have raised questions on the law and order situation in the area after the miscreants shot a youth in a populated area. 

Police are conducting raids at various places to nab the culprits. The investigating officers will also interrogate the victim after his condition improves.
