Private bus runs over 40-yr-old man while racing another in Lake Town

A 40-year-old person died in a road accident at Lake Town on Friday morning. He came under the wheels of a speeding private bus near Lake Town Sheetala Mandir.

Police said, Raj Kumar Choubey, the person who died in the accident, was taken to a nearby hospital by some locals, but was declared brought dead.

However, the police learnt that the killer vehicle, a 219/1 route bus was racing another bus of the same route.

One bus managed to speed off from there. The driver of the other bus fled as well, leaving his vehicle on the road. The local people tried to catch him, but he managed to flee the spot. “The man was standing there. He was probably waiting for a bus. The 219/1 route bus suddenly rushed towards him and he could not save himself,” said an eyewitness of the incident.

“We have detained a conductor of the bus. A case has been initiated. The accused driver will be arrested soon,” said a police officer. In another incident, an auto rickshaw mowed down a person near Salt Lake’s City Centre on Friday evening. Renuka Roy, a 42-year-old woman was crossing the road there while the speeding auto rickshaw hit her.

She was taken to a nearby hospital. “Local people captured the auto driver there. They handed the accused driver to police,” said a police officer.

“Renuka was going to City Centre for Christmas Shopping. But she is now admitted in hospital with a leg injury,” a family member of the victim said.
