Priest arrested for sexually assaulting Madhyamik examinee

A priest was arrested on Sunday on charges of sexually assaulting a Madhyamik examinee. 

The incident took place at Parnashree. Police said the accused Naru Gopal Bhattyacharya (45) is originally a resident of Maina in East Midnapore. 

The priest had asked the student to follow his instruction if she wanted to do well in her examinations. 

On Saturday night, the accused had asked her to come near a temple which is close to her house. 

When the girl went to the place, she found that Bhattyacharya was waiting for her. 

He gave her some food to eat and sexually assaulted her. She returned home in a traumatised condition and narrated the incident to her parents. 

Her parents, who knew the accused since quite a few years, were surprised after they came to know about the matter. 

Father of the 15-year-old girl lodged a complaint with Parnashree police station. Dased on his complaint, a police team arrested the accused.

Bhattyacharya has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Cose on charges sexually assaulting a minor girl and POCSO Act.

Local people too were astonished to know the incident. A local resident said he had found nothing suspicious when he crossed the area around 10.30 pm on Saturday.
