President Pranab’s son manhandled in Tripura

A section of Congress leaders in Tripura Monday demanded strict action against the Congress workers who manhandled President Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee here last week.

Abhijit Mukherjee, a member of the West Bengal assembly, accompanied by party legislator Joseph Munda, came here last week to attend a seminar organised in connection with the 105th birth anniversary of Tripura's first chief minister Sachindralal Singha. 'After attending the discussion in the city, Mukherjee, Munda and other party leaders went to inaugurate a library at Kali Bazar. Some party workers led by state Congress leader Balai Goswami manhandled Mukherjee there,' Tripura Pradesh Congress general secretary Subal Bhowmik said.

'These unruly party men are close to the Congress leaders who are now running the party in Tripura.

They misbehaved with Mukherjee and used foul language,' Bhowmik said. Bhowmik has sent a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi giving details of the incident.

According to Bhowmik, Abhijit Mukherjee was declared a state guest by the Tripura government. He was entitled to 'Z' category security.
