Students of Presidency University today sat on a 24-hour hunger strike in solidarity with the ongoing agitation at University of Hyderabad over Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula’s suicide. About 18 students sat for the token hunger strike at 4 pm at the portico of the University’s campus.
The students said they will spend the night in the cold outside and end the strike at 4 pm on Friday.
Trisha Chanda, general secretary of the students’ union, said their protest is against all forms of minority oppression. The protesters will also be initiating a sensitisation process within the campus on oppression of minorities, she added.
