Prajnesh beat Ranjeet in ITF Men’s Future tennis

On a day when all seeded singles players progressed to the quarterfinals, former national champion and fourth seed V M Ranjeet was ousted by wild card entrant Prajnesh Gunneswaran in the Raman Sports Trust ITF Men’s Future tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

Prajnesh defeated Ranjeet 6-4, <g data-gr-id="15">6-2,</g> while top seed Vijay Sundar Prashanth made short work of <g data-gr-id="16">Jeson</g> <g data-gr-id="17">Patromobon</g> of Philippines and second seed Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan blanked out qualifier Prajwal Dev 6-0 6-3 in another match.

Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash, the fifth seed, demolished qualifier Tejas <g data-gr-id="18">Chakulkar</g> conceding only two games in the match. The sixth seed Vinayak Sharma Kaza proved too good for wild card entrant Basil Khuma, while last week’s champion Sumit Nagal, seeded seventh, outplayed Chandril Sood 6-4 6-2. In another match, Borja Rodrigues Manzano of Spain dominated the proceedings against qualifier Kunal Anand to win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. In the match between Ranjeet and Prajnesh, the former drew first blood when he broke Prajnesh to lead 3-1. He held his serve to make it 4-1. At this stage, Prajnesh lifted his game, served powerfully and hit brilliant winners to take the next five games in a row to win the first set 6-4.
