Power demand touches all-time high

The power demand in the city on Thursday broke all previous records, touching an all-time high of 5,271 mega watt, triggering power cuts in several areas due to mismatch in demand and supply. The previous highest power requirement in the city was recorded on 15 June when the demand touched 5,265 mega watt.

‘The maximum power demand in the city touched 5,271 MW, which is a new record of power consumption in Delhi,’ a Power department official said.

North India sizzled as temperatures remained above normal at most places and high humidity levels made life miserable for people. In city, the maximum temperature was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal and the minimum was 33.6 degrees Celsius, six points above normal. The humidity in the national capital was 41 per cent.

‘There was no power in our area for three hours,’ said a resident in Janakpuri area of the city. Meanwhile, Met office forecast no relief from intense heat conditions with the region mainly remaining dry in the next two days.
