Post May 19, Cong-CPI(M) honeymoon will be over: Mamata Banerjee

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday confidently said that her party would receive the majority of votes in the constituencies where elections have been held so far. In the same breath, she cautioned people against the canards spread by the Opposition.

While addressing a rally at Patuli Monday evening, she said a great conspiracy was being hatched by the Opposition, along with ABP group, to confuse people.

Banerjee said that some people had told her that there was news in the public domain that TMC would win only between 30 and 40 seats. On inquiry, it was found that those people had received an SMS predicting such results. When asked about the message, they said that the prediction was made by IAS and IPS officers and IB report. “No IAS or IPS officer or the IB had prepared this. It was the handiwork of the Opposition, along with ABP group,” said the Chief Minister. It may be recalled that Surya Kanta Misra in an election rally on Sunday had claimed that TMC would get 30-40 seats.

Referring to the assistance by the Central Forces, she said the forces had gone overboard and even heckled genuine voters, which was unfortunate. She thanked those present to attend the meeting despite unbearable heat.

She also urged workers to ensure the party’s victory in the 2016 Assembly election and to get ready to capture Delhi in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

She was addressing a workers’ conference in Bhowanipore on Monday afternoon. On Sunday she took part in a road show that had attracted thousands of people. To boost up the workers she had addressed them to counter the canards spread by the Opposition and a section of press.

Lashing out at Congress and CPI(M) she said it was really amazing that whatever Sonia Gandhi was saying had been echoed by Sitaram Yechury and vice versa. “The Congress and CPI(M) are behaving like newly-wed couple and are holding each other’s hands for survival. But on May 19 once the results are out the honeymoon phase will be over and Congress and CPI(M) will have no existence.”
