Portal to keep tabs on dodgy medical shops

The portal christened as Pharma Jan Samadhan will be launched by Minister of Chemical & Fertilizers Ananth Kumar on Thursday.

The website is being launched under the aegis of Digital India, a pet project of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi.

“The portal, which is a brain child of NPPA chairman Injeti Srinivas, will help in keeping a tab on black-marketing of essential drugs. The NPPA has uploaded the price list of controlled drugs on the portal, which can be accessed by anybody at any corner of the country,” a senior official in the NPPA told Millennium Post.

“A consumer can register a complaint on the website about non-availability or overcharging for any life saving drug with details of the truant medical store such as its location and name. Consumers can also upload the picture of the store, which is optional, on the website. The apex body will instantly identify the drug manufacturer and initiate necessary action,” the NPPA official said, adding, “The services of portal would first be launched in metro cities and thereafter across the country.”

According to the official, patients can search details of drugs by entering the generic name and if a consumer is seeking details on more than one drug at one time, they can do it by entering comma after a generic name.

It’s worth mentioning here that NPPA monitors and controls the prices of all drugs incorporated in the First Schedule to DPCO, 2013.

Also the apex drug controller notifies the prices of scheduled (NLEM) drugs/new drugs and sets a ceiling price per unit and in any case MRP of pack must not exceed the ceiling price of the pack.
