Police yet to arrest anyone in Picnic Garden robbery attempt case

Police are yet to arrest anyone on charges of injuring four persons for foiling their attempt to decamp with valuables from the residence of a retired deputy commissioner of the Income Tax department at Picnic Garden.

On Saturday, two unidentified miscreants injured four people including an elderly woman after failing to flee with valuables.

Police conducted raids at different places in this connection but yet to catch the accused. Sources said raids were conducted in some parts of South 24-Parganas. Some people, who work as domestic helps, in the apartment have also been questioned but they failed to give any clue about the accused.

There were two persons who had committed the crime. One of them was of around 50-year-old while the other one was a youth. Portraits of both the persons have been prepared and police officers of South 24-Parganas district have been contacted.

Besides, senior officers of the city police’s detective department are assisting the investigating officer from Kasba police station to arrest the culprits.  Police are now trying to find out whether either of the two persons had worked earlier in the area as daily wage labourers.

Police once again spoke to the wife of the retired deputy commissioner of the Income Tax department and others who had seen the accused on Saturday.

A senior police officer said that the way they had opted to flee suggests that they were well aware about the area and someone from the locality was involved with the accused who tried to commit the robbery.
