Police nab auto driver who killed passenger

An autorickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly stabbing to death a man following a dispute over non-payment of fare in west Delhi’s Madipur locality early this month, police said on Thursday.

The 28-year-old autorickshaw driver Manglu, a resident of Mangolpuri, had stabbed one Izhaar alias Sameer and his co-worker Javed after they had a heated argument over the fare on the intervening night of 2 and 3 December, a senior police official said.

‘The accused was arrested from Peeragarhi relief camp bus stand here yesterday, after 23 days of the incident. Police have recovered the murder weapon, mobile phone of the deceased and the blood-stained clothes from Manglu,’ said V Renganathan, Addl CP west district.

Izhaar and Javed had hired the auto from G B Road to their destination in Madipur on 2 December. At around midnight, when they reached the destination they had an argument with the driver.  Following which, the auto driver stabbed Izhaar and also injured Javed before fleeing from the spot, he said, adding both of them were taken to Sanjay Gandhi hospital where Izhaar was declared brought dead while Javed was treated for his stab wounds.
