Police directed to close playschool, arrest owner

The Minister of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Delhi government, Kiran Walia, on Friday convened a high level meeting of senior officers on the tragic incident of child rape in a playschool ‘Paathshala’ at Sagarpur in south west district.

Walia discussed all the aspects of the case and asked the chairman, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) to immediately instruct the police to seal the premises including playschool where the heinous crime took place and also asked the police to arrest the owner of the school.

Immediately after seeking instructions from the minister, DCPCR issued a notice to Additional Commissioner of Police, south-west district, and a copy to SHO Sagarpur saying, ‘Keeping in view the facts and circumstances of the case, and a gravity of the alleged crime, commission find it expedient that premises, which is being used by the accused as playschool, shall be sealed so that no child  may fall victim of such heinous act. Keeping in view  the best interest of the children the commission recommended closure of the premises till further orders’.

A report regarding the closure of this premises will be also placed before the commission by 24 December 2012.

Walia informed that the police have to invoke stringent provisions of the recently enacted Act ‘The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012’ and ensure stringent action against the culprits involved.  The minister also directed the police to take action on the landlady who was running the play school.
