Police bust sex racket, 19 held in Baguiati

Bidhannagar police on Tuesday busted a sex racket from Lake Town and arrested 19 people, including 8 women. Acting on a tip-off the senior police officers of Bidhannagar raided a residential flat at Dum Dum Park area and caught the accused from a flat.

In the course of the investigation, police came to know that the sex racket had been operating at various residential flats of Baguiati and Lake Town areas. It may be mentioned that last Saturday, Baguiati police had arrested some youth and girls from a flat in a compromising situation. The local people have told the police that some other local people were involved in the racket. Some of the local residents, however, alleged that people do not take action against the accused despite of having knowledge about such incidents. They alleged that the situation is gradually getting worse due to the police inaction. The sex racket has been mushrooming at various parts under the Bidhannagar police Commissionerate.

A senior police officer, however, denied the allegation of police inaction and said that raids were being performed at various places from time to time. Prompt action will be taken against the accused after a complaint comes in.

It may be mentioned that the Bidhannagar police have busted 3-4 sex rackets from various parts under its jurisdiction and arrested many people for their alleged involvement for running sex rackets. In most of the cases, the police have seen that the house owners were involved in the rackets. In some cases, it has been observed that the flat owners lent out their residential apartments for such incidents. Police had arrested a flat owner at BL block in Salt Lake who used to rent out his flat to couples at an approximate cost of Rs 2,000 per night.
