Police book 3 for attempt to murder

Kolkata police <g data-gr-id="30">has</g> arrested three persons and charged them with <g data-gr-id="23">attempt</g> to murder in the clash between police and Left supporters during Thursday’s march to Lalbazar, a senior officer of the Force said on Friday.

The police <g data-gr-id="21">has</g> lodged three FIRs two at Bowbazar police station on the basis of which these three Left supporters were arrested and another at the Hare Street Police Station.

The three were charged under Section 147 (Rioting), Section 307 (attempt to murder) and other sections of the IPC. The trio, when produced at a city court, were remanded for police custody till October 5. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Police (HQ) Rajeev Mishra on Friday claimed that it was the Left supporters who had attacked the police. “They attacked the police by pelting stones and with sticks holding party flags,” Mishra said.

The IPS also credited the Force for “staying calm” when Left supporters were “provoking police” in their speeches.

According to Special Additional and Joint Commissioner of Police <g data-gr-id="22">(TP)</g> Supratim Sarkar, “It was a pre-planned act by the Left supporters during yesterday’s march to Lalbazar.”

Talking about one Left Front supporter being critically injured in the clash and who was now fighting for life at a city hospital, DC Central Bastab Baidya said: “It’s an absolute lie. Our officers found that the person fell down at his home and injured himself in the process.”
