Police assures your safety when on vacation

Come summer, Delhiites go in search of cooler pastures, much to the delight of thieves. But this summer, Delhi police has decided to put a kink in their plans. It has put in action an initiative to prevent thieves from breaking in.

According to police sources, in south Delhi, the police has requested the residents to inform them in advance in case they are planning to go on a long holiday. The beat constable would keep an eye on the vacant house.

Parmeet Singh, a resident of Sarojini Nagar and an employ of a government bank, said, 'I am very happy with the involvement of the police and quite impressed that the police are actually focusing on our safety. We could now enjoy our holidays by leaving our home in the safe hands of Delhi police.' Akansha Sharma, a student of Delhi University, who resides in Malviya Nagar, said that every time her family planned to go on a summer vacation, the immediate reaction of her mother was that she can't leave the house empty because of the increasing crime. Even if they stay in a gated colony with security, robberies take place often, said Sharma.

'But with this effort made by Delhi police, my mom would surely agree to go on a fairly long vacation.

'Whenever a person informs that he/she is going on vacation, leaving the house locked, we would register the address. We are maintain a record. The beat constables would then be assigned the duty of checking those residences in morning as well as in the night. This exercise would definitely help in controlling the break-ins,' said a senior police official.
