Police almost certain of insider’s role in Sarai Rohilla triple murder

A day after an elderly couple and their 30-year-old son were found murdered inside their residence in North Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla area, the police said that they were certain about the role of an “insider” in the incident. The needle of suspicion rotates around half-a-dozen persons — including two of their tenants, among which one had left the rented room last week, and a relative — who has been detained for questioning, said an official privy to the investigation.

“It is almost certain that the crime was carried out by an <g data-gr-id="37">insider</g> but the motive can be ascertained only when the accused is identified,” said DCP (North) Madhur Verma, adding that the case is being probed from all possible angles, including personal rivalry and robbery.

According to the police, the family lived in two single-room accommodations – one on the  third floor and the other above that – in the same building at Sarai Basti locality near Shastri Nagar in Sarai Rohilla.

The third floor was found to be in a disorganised state, objects in the fourth floor appeared to be untouched, said the official. The <g data-gr-id="46">bodied</g> of the couple were found to be covered with quilts and the windows were left open by the killer, who had also switched on the air cooler, <g data-gr-id="45">suspectedly</g> to stop the bodies from decomposing <g data-gr-id="44">any time</g> soon, said the official.

During <g data-gr-id="49">investigation</g>, it emerged that the victims had built up a room on the fifth floor of the building, which they had rented to two youths. One of them had left the room on September <g data-gr-id="48">20,</g> while the other still lived there, both were reported to the good friends with Rakesh, said the official privy to the investigation. He further said that another suspect happens to be a relative, who had a dispute with Rakesh. Without ruling out the angle of robbery, he added that it is quite possible that an insider had struck with a robbery motive.
