PM is like Dhritarashtra: Kiran Bedi

The war of words between Team Anna and the government would not end soon it seems, with team Anna member Kiran Bedi slamming the Prime Minister and comparing him to Dhritarashtra.

‘PMO clears Prime Minister. Did Dhritarashtra in Mahabharata not support Kauravas even after they attempted to disrobe Draupadi? Indian genes/culture? Or?’ tweeted Kiran Bedi.

Bedi in her tweets quoted C Rajagopalachari’s Mahabharata in which Dhritarashtra is saying ‘I did not follow the wise path of Dharma and statesmanship but suffered myself to be misled by my foolish son. And as you say, we are fast hastening towards the abyss.’ The former IPS officer alleged that the Prime Minister and his tainted team will not give a strong criminal justice system to the country.

‘Do or Die fast from 25 July for SIT probe on PM+14 Cab Ministers. Tainted team may never give us an expeditious and strong criminal justice system,’ alleged Bedi.

The stand off between Team Anna and the government widened with Prime Minister’s office rejecting Anna Hazare’s demands for setting up a Special Investigation Team [SIT]. Team Anna had demanded that SIT should probe corruption charges against the Prime Minister and 14 cabinet colleagues, they had also asked to set up a fast track court to take up corruption cases against MPs.

Attacking Team Anna, Union Minister for Law, Salman Khurshid said ‘we all felt they started off with a good idea. Idea of containing corruption and questioning corruption was a good idea. But today, they are doing greatest disservice to this idea by converting it into a personal campaign and personal ambition’. Khurshid added that the country will give them a suitable answer when the time comes.

‘We are at least subject to public scrutiny. Every five years we go through an election. People reject or accept our record and everything is there available and we are willing for any public scrutiny,’ said Khurshid. The minister alleged that Team Anna members have never asked for a probe against themselves, whereas the government has methods to check what is happening in the country.

‘There are many many questions they must first answer. I don’t think they have the right to ask questions and I don’t think they are being very helpful and very good to democracy in our country,’ he said. The minister said that Team Anna members are screaming and shouting to beat the government.

The government has sharpened its attack on Team Anna, with Minister of State (PMO) V Narayanaswamy alleging that Hazare was surrounded by anti-national elements and supported by foreign forces.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) too attacked the government and demanded a probe into corruption allegations of the government.

‘Nobody suspects Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but the way in which his government is drowned in corruption and scams it is natural that the taint reaches him also. It is unfortunate but it will happen,’ said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbad Nauqvi.
