Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) has moved an application in the Supreme Court for immediate registration of an FIR into the alleged prosecution-accused nexus in the 2G case and a thorough probe. It has also prayed from the court to direct the CBI to send the tape of the conversation for verification and voice-tests to multiple labs, including the Truth Lab which is not under government control.
Citing the purported conversation between prosecutor AK Singh and managing director of Unitech Sanjay Chandra, one of the accused in the 2G scam, to weaken the case against him, CPIL has sought the intervention of the apex court in the matter.
CPIL, in its application citing various media reports on the issue of prosecution-accused nexus, has said that although the Supreme Court had appointed a senior advocate as the Special Public Prosecutor in the, but unfortunately most of the prosecution of the case had been conducted by the government-appointed CBI’s PP A K Singh.
‘It was Singh who had to face a battery of top lawyers appearing for the powerful politicians and corporates. It is precisely because of this reason, that the recent revelations are even more disturbing,’ said CPIL application filed through its counsel Prashant Bhushan.
