Plan on to get heritage status for capital

Seeking the prestigious World Heritage City status for the capital, Delhi government on Tuesday decided to appoint heritage conservation organisation Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for preparing the nomination dossier that would be submitted to the UNESCO.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The government will also hold a series of programmes to highlight rich culture and heritage of the city and to campaign for getting the UNESCO Heritage City status for Delhi.

The detailed documentation for the nomination will be prepared jointly by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Ltd (DTTDC) in cooperation with INTACH.

The Cabinet has also given its go ahead for signing of an agreement between INTACH and DTTDC for the purpose. The nomination dossier will be submitted to UNESCO through the Ministry of Culture.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved a proposal submitted by PWD for allotment of 13 shops in subways in different residential colonies to the Delhi Khadi Village Industries Board at normal rent fee. The shops will sell khadi cloth and garments.
