PIL in SC against suspension of UP IAS officer Durga Shakti

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed on Tuesday in the Supreme Court on the issue of IAS Durga Shakti Nagpal’s suspension by the Uttar Pradesh government for allegedly ordering the demolition of an under-construction mosque in a village in Noida. The PIL has sought quashing of the suspension and consequent action against her by the state government.

The petition has made Uttar Pradesh government and the central government respondents in the matter of the 2010 batch IAS officer who had clamped down on the mining mafia in Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

Currently, a war of words between the state government and the central government is going on on the issue, with the central government favouring reconsideration of her case while the state government justifying her suspension. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had also written a letter to the Prime Minister on the issue. The Prime Minister had said that the central government was in touch with the state authorities on the issue.
