PHQ protest: Commuters stuck for hours in traffic

The protest started at around 10 am and both carriageways on the Indraprastha Marg, which leads to Vikas Marg, were blocked by the protesters gathered outside the police headquarters.

Within minutes of the protest, bumper-to-bumper traffic was reported from every junction which led to ITO. In no time, the ripple effect was witnessed at Sikandra Road, Tilak Marg, and the Mathura Road stretch near Pragati Maidan.

“On my way to Mandi House, I was stuck near the IMA building in Indraprastha Road. I could see thousands of people ahead and realised there was no way out. One lane of the carriageway was cleared for a while and I drove past the protest zone,” said Bidit Deka, a lawyer by profession.

The crowd dispersed around 12.30 pm after announcement of formation of SIT to probe the mysterious fire at church.
