Now a Union Territory, Ladakh has a charm that is distinct from the rest of the country yet is essential to the definition and integration of India. Tucked at above 3,000 m at the crown of our country, the landscape of Ladakh is a mix of undulating cold desert, steep terrains, plush blue lakes and thinning atmosphere. Not everyone’s cup of tea – Ladakh is rugged, virgin and untouched. Home to Buddhism in India, it also boasts of magnificent monasteries, whose colour and vibrancy provide the perfect relief to the greys of this mountain terrain.
