Person hangs self in Digha after failing to repay debt

A person committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on Saturday night.

Police said Surajit Malo (32), a trader by profession hanged him due to his rising debt in the market which he could not repay in time.

A suicide note, which was found from the hotel room where he lodged at, read: “I am killing myself due to huge debt which I cannot repay.”

The body was sent to the autopsy.‘We are primarily suspecting that it is a case of suicide as a letter was recovered. There is nothing such found by which we can ascertain that that he was forced to hang himself,” said an investigating officer.

The hotel authority informed the police that the man came on Saturday morning, took a room at New Digha’s sophisticated hotel.

However, he never called up room service and was confined in the room for while.

“We had a doubt in our mind and had gone to check the room. We did not get any response and 
called up the police. The police broke the lock and opened the door to see the hanging body,” said the hotel manager.

Meanwhile, the police are examining documents from the bag of the man.

“We have got his voter identity card, by which we knew that he is resident of Howrah’s Benimadhav Chaterjee Road. He has a various businesses, some of which had partnership with friends. Those friends might be searching for him for money,” said the officer.

The investigators will contact his banks to ascertain the wealth of the trader as well.
