People threatening to attack me, says Kapil Mishra

Social media platforms, which are usually used to propagate information among masses, are now being used as tools for spreading misinformation, terror and communal tension. In a recent such case, reported by Delhi Cabinet minister Kapil Mishra, it has been alleged that a few social media profiles were using his name and photos in an attempt to incite communal and caste based tensions by spreading misinformation.

In this regard, Mishra, who is the Water Minister of Delhi,  has sent complaints to the Home Ministry, Delhi Police Commissioner, Facebook head and Twitter head.

Mishra further stated: “People who are operating these accounts are posting fake pictures and statements in my name and then they spread screenshots of such fake posts through various accounts.” He added: “The way these fake accounts and posts are being promoted and spread, I can tell you that there is a very systematic, professional and organised attempt to incite communal and caste based violence. Some posts are so violent and poisonous that people reading and spreading openly give threats of attacking me.”  Providing details of few such profiles, he mentioned, @kapilmishraAPP and @JalMantri on Twitter and @Unofficial KapilMishra and @KapilMishraG on Facebook.
