People should be made aware about fundamental rights: CJI

Chief Justice of India(CJI) P Sathasivam on Sunday emphasized the need of awareness of Fundamental Duties among all the citizens and said that it should be made part of mandatory curriculum in Schools and Colleges.

‘The State Governments have to take initiative in this regard while emphasized that the decisions taken in this meet should be implemented in true spirit by  the State Legal Services Authorities,’  he said on the concluding session of the two day long 12th All India Meet of the State Legal Services Authorities here on Sunday. The CJI is also the Patron-in Chief,of National Legal Services Authority.

Justice R.M Lodha of Supreme Court and and Executive Chairman, of National Legal Services Authority in his address emphasized the social issues and challenges being faced by different states. He also emphasized on the strengthening of Village level care and support centre so that Justice reaches the door step of common man. ‘One of the objectives of legal aid is qualitative legal  aid and every effort should be focused in providing the qualitative legal services,’ he said. Justice Lodha also emphasized that focus should also be on renouncing all the practices which are prejudicial to the dignity of women and the need for generating awareness of fundamental duties in a family setup. Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Dr. Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud ,Patron-in-Chief, UP State Legal Services Authority extended vote of thanks to all the dignitaries for sparing valuable time and guiding and enlightening all in the meet. 

He also appreciated efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Government and UP State Legal Services Authority, its Officers and  all others involved in organizing the event. On the Second day of 12th All India Meet of the State Legal Services Authorities, Conclave of the Member Secretaries, State legal authorities was held which was chaired by Mrs. Asha Menon, Member Secretary National Legal Services authority.  This was followed by the Plenary Session of  Executive Chairpersons and Member Secretaries, State Legal Services Authority which was chaired by Justice P Sathasivam. 

In this Session, Minutes of 11th Tamil Nadu on April 20-21, 2013 was confirmed and the status of action taken on the resolution  was passed in the aforementioned 11th which the State Legal Service authority was required to adopt at least one project for the year for focused implementation .
