People ransack shop, beat up owner for molesting minor in Tamluk

Residents of Panchaberia village in Tomluk ransacked a grocery shop after its owner allegedly molested a minor girl.

The incident triggered tension in the area. Police said that Madan Mohan Maiti, a local grocery shop owner, had allegedly molested when the victim had gone to his shop for buying some items. The family members told the police that the victim fell ill after the incident. The family members took the victim to the local health centre where she received medical treatment. Later, she was shifted to Tomluk Hospital.

As the incident came to light, local people stormed into the shop of the accused and beat him up. The mob later ransacked his shop. The shop owner received injuries and his shop was completely damaged in the incident. After being informed, the police reached the spot and rescued the accused from the mob and arrested him.

The local residents staged a demonstration demanding stern action against the accused. The local people alleged that the accused had committed similar crime earlier too. They staged a protest before the police and urged them to take stern action against the accused. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Local people said that the accused had earlier molested a girl a few years ago and the villagers had forced him to close his shop.

The victim is undergoing treatment at hospital. She is still to recover from the trauma.
