PayTm usage makes NCR women vulnerable to unwanted, lewd requests

The wide use of PayTm mobile application in making payments to buy household and other essential items through local grocery stores has put at risk some women in Ghaziabad. To pay through PayTm, women get their numbers exchanged with the shopkeepers that somehow spread to some roadside romeos and they have started troubling the ladies. There has been a couple of incidents where some ladies have started receiving phone calls and lewd messages on WhatsApp from unknown numbers.

The incident happened with few ladies of Vaishali Sector 1 area in Ghaziabad. Frustrated, these women had to change their numbers to get rid of the mischievous persons.

According to a lady from Vaishali, she has been using PayTm for the last 15 days through her mobile number. Till now, she has used this application in more than a dozen of transactions at different shops which has made her number to get spread to the shop owners. Since past few days she is receiving many messages from unknown numbers on WhatsApp. On asking one particular unknown about the source wherefrom he got her number, the guy replied that while she was making the payment she was telling the number to the shopkeeper and he was standing nearby and thus noted down the number. This, however, forced her to change her number.

Another lady from Vasundhara, Ghaziabad suffered the same way. She is also troubled after sharing her number through the mobile wallet. According to the lady, it’s hard to find out that from where the number floated. The person sending vulgar messages has been warned by the lady saying that next time she will make a police complaint.

This is happening in the entire district. Another lady from Rajendra Nagar, Ghaziabad, also faced the similar issue. After making payments through PayTm, she too started receiving messages and calls from unknown numbers asking her to be friends. She got frightened and somehow managed to change her number. Anil Yadav, Circle Officer, Indirapuram said: “As of now, there is no complaint made by any of the ladies. We will surely investigate the matter if it comes to us.”
