Paytm under scanner for eKYC verification nod

After stoking controversy over the use of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo in one of its advertisement, the Paytm is under scanner for being given permission for Aadhar-based eKYC by the government. According to industry sources, other online-transaction platforms such as FreeCharge, MobiKwik, etc have raised their concerns with the government over the decision citing the reason that when other online-transaction portals are also working on the same, why such as favour has been extended to Paytm only.

Earlier, when Paytm’s advertisement was published, Delhi Chief Minister and Modi’s Arvind Kejriwal had dubbed the move as utterly shameful. In a tweet, Kejriwal had said, “Utterly shameful. Do people want their PM to model for private companies? Tomorrow, if these companies do wrongdoings, who will act against them?” He had also alleged that Paytm was biggest beneficiary of PM’s demonetization of big currency announcement.
