Passengers stage demonstration at airport over flight delay

Hundreds of passengers on Saturday staged demonstration inside the Nataji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport over the delay of a flight.

The passengers who were supposed to go to Mumbai by a Spice Jet flight got stranded as the plane did not take off in time. The passengers remained stranded for four hours in the morning. The flight operators told the passengers that the plane cannot take off from the NSCBI Airport as there was low visibility in the Mumbai airport due to fog.

The passengers became infuriated when they saw some other Mumbai bound flights take off at a later time. They registered a complaint against the private carrier at the NSCBI police station. The airport authorities later arranged another flight for these passengers.

Incidentally, a flight that was carrying the Prime Minister of Bhutan could not land in Thimpu due to inclement weather and the flight returned to the city.

It was learnt that there was fog in the airport as a result of which the Prime Minister’s flight could not land there. The Prime Minister came to Kolkata to attend the Bengal Business Summit.
