Partha urges teachers to help students achieve excellence

Partha Chatterjee, state higher Education minister on Tuesday urged teachers to coach students to achieve excellence and requested them not to consider teaching as a mere profession.

He was addressing teachers at a function at Jadavpur University on Tuesday. He said the teachers should consider the educational institutions as their places of worship and coach the students to achieve highest standard. “We have the finest students who are excellent but the results are not as per expectation.” He said improvement of infrastructure was not enough and the teachers should impart education to the students regularly and maintain the quality.

He said there are two top class universities in the state and many new universities had come up but the quality of education in these institutes had been questioned.” It is the responsibility of the teachers to give the best to the students,” he said.

Chatterjee during his speech did not criticise the teachers but reminded them of their duties which have often been questioned. He said some educational institutions were facing some problems and teachers would have to come forward to resolve them.

During the TMC regime, 10 universities had been set up and to achieve excellence, the teachers would have to play the leading role. It may be mentioned that the state government had decided not to allow any kind of hooliganism at university campus.
