Partha Chatterjee inaugurates website on Public Library Day

The minister also initiated the development work of State Central Library under national mission on library project. In his speech, Chatterjee said, books play an important role in human life. The library also has an important role here. It connects the readers to the books. Many ministers had turned out on Wednesday’s programme organised by Mass Education Extension and Library department. Sovan Chatterjee, Molay Ghatak, Chandranath Sinha, Sashi Panja, Suvendu Adhikari were present among the ministers.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, Ashutosh Ghosh and the Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University Suranjan Das were also presented among the dignitaries.

The website of Mass Education Extension and Library department was refurbished and it was newly launched by state education minister. Mass Education Extension and Library department minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury said that his department is working under the guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and education minister Partha Chatterjee.

A discussion – the importance of the reading book was arranged by the department. Barasat MLA Chiranjeet Chatterjee, Director of Prasar Bharati (East and North East) Kishor Krishna Banerjee, Ram Kumar Mukherjee, the director of the publication department of Viswa Bharati, was among the speakers. However, a vision document of the Mass Education Extension and Library department were also present on Wednesday.

The education minister, however, said, the libraries across the state, were lying without development during the erstwhile Left Front government. “Now people can visibly see the change in libraries of the state. I will request the minister and other officials to thoroughly inspect the development of libraries and spending of allocated money in library development funds,” Chatterjee said.

“Libraries are still playing important role in the age of internet. The habit of reading always increases with the association of library,” Chatterjee added.
