Parrikar hints at liberal defence exports regime

Concerned over “nagging” Chinese influence close to the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday tipped for a possible liberalised defence exports regime for friendly nations who are “threatened”.

He said many countries are looking at India for support as they are being “threatened” by others.
He said, “Soon after the NDA came to power, it is working on a policy, under which certain defence industry-related items would be banned from being imported to boost the domestic manufacturing sector.”

It was learnt that a team of defence experts are already working on the modalities over the new “liberalised defence exports” policies and soon it will be placed before the nation.
