Parl. committee discusses paid news trend in media

Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Friday discussed the rising trend of 'paid news' in the media and the ways to arrest this phenomenon.

The Committee, which met here with Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni in the chair, held threadbare discussions on the trend of 'paid news' in the media in the country, official sources said.

The members discussed the ways and means of arresting this trend so that media reports continue to be free of bias, fair and objective, they said.

The meeting also discussed DAVP functioning besides reviewing the functioning of Doordarshan, All India Radio, Press Information Bureau, Song and Drama Division and Field Publicity wing, the sources said. The meeting was attended by six parliamentarians and officials of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry including its secretary Uday Kumar Varma and Director Generals of Doordarshan and AIR.
