Parking mafia caught overcharging people

After thwarting the efforts of New Delhi Municipal Council to implement hiked parking charges in Lutyens Delhi, the parking mafia was found harassing people charging people higher parking fees.
‘It has been observed that most of the parking contractors are demanding parking charges on revised rates which have not come into effect,’ said the council in an advisory.

The advisory cautioned parking users against paying extra charges. ‘The council has approved the hiked parking rates but it has not been enforced so far.

We will inform the people through public notice about implementation of hiked parking rates,’ the advisory added. Millennium Post in its reports on 29 July had established how parking operators made a cartel to thwart the implementation of revised parking rates in Lutyens zone and were overcharging the consumers.

NDMC had invited bids from contractors to run its parking lots on revised parking rates but not a single bid was received.
‘A person can complain about overcharging of parking fee to deputy director enforcement of NDMC,’ said an NDMC spokesperson.

The council has 41 parking sites which are managed by four contractors, Pintu, Mohinder Kumar Chopra, Urban Solutions and KS Chauhan. They sublet their contracts to small contractors in turn. These parking sites are located in and around Connaught Place, India Gate, Malcha Marg, Ashoka Hotel, Sarojini Nagar, Rail Museum and Palika Bhawan among other locations.
