Park Street murder: Slain woman’s boyfriend held

Police have finally cracked the mystery over the death of a sex worker whose body was found at Park Street and Ripon Street crossing on last Saturday. After starting an investigation police have arrested four persons including the prime accused, Rizwan with whom the victim had developed a relationship. As per the preliminary investigation police suspect that the accused Rizwan had killed the woman after she started mounting pressure on him to marry her. Police have arrested one Raju Seikh for assisting Rizwan while dumping the body elsewhere after the murder was committed inside a guest house where the accused used to stay with the victim woman. Police had earlier arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the crime and after interrogating them police came to know the name of Raju.

Police said that wage labourer Raju had helped Rizwan remove the body from the place of the murder. Police came to know after interrogating the accused that the woman was murdered between 12 am and 1 am on Friday night following which the main accused had engaged in a quarrel with the manager of the guest house. Rizwan threatened the manager that he would inform the police that he had been involved in sex racket if he tries to raise any alarm.

Three of the accused were remanded in 14 days police custody after being produced in a city court on Tuesday. Police got important leads after examining two tattoos that were inscribed on her arms. Police have interrogated two sex workers to ascertain the identity of the woman. The woman was a resident of South 24 Parganas who used to visit the guest house quite often with the prime accused.
The accused along with some others took the body of the victim in a vehicle and dumped the body at the Park Street and Ripon Street crossing on early Saturday morning. The investigating officers had received some information after examining the CCTV footages in the area.
