Pappu-Feku battle floods social media

While there may be still a year to go for the next general elections in 2014, but the social media battle between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already begun. If #pappu jokes were directed at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi when he spoke at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) last week, Monday was the turn of Congress party to poke fun of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Twitter, as he spoke at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi.

As soon as Modi started his speech #Feku started trending on twitter and even pipped #ModiStormsFicci, Feku means a person who boasts. Sources who handle the social media team of the Congress party said that there have been contemplations within the party to have a presence on the social media, however, with the Rahul Gandhi’s bashing after his speech at CII, the party felt the need to come out with a strong counter attack.

If tweets directed at Rahul Gandhi were ‘rakesh khanna @bobkhanna: Not a word from #PappuCII on how his government wrecked the institution of prime minister,’ then on Monday, when Modi  addressed the gathering at FICCI as mothers and sisters, tweets were directed at him which said   ‘What about the ‘50 Cr Girl Friend’ comment #FEKU ? Did #FICCI women ask you that? — Rachit Seth @rachitseth.’

Though #Feku initially was critical of Modi’s speech it was later highjacked by pro Modi people who labelled Rahul Gandhi as the Feku. ‘Feku Rahul said his father Rajiv Gandhi brought Mobile to india.. but did not tell that he was a middleman too,’ the tweet was re-tweeted 710 times.
