Over 60 per cent voting in UP

Around 60 per cent of voters have exercised their franchise in 14 Lok Sabha seats in 17 districts in the VVIP central regions of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday which ended in a peaceful note.

However reports of minor clashes were reported from Jhansi and Unnao seats. Polling was also held for two assembly by-elections at Unnao and Fatehpur seats which too passed off peacefully.

Anirudh Sharma, son of BSP candidate from Jhansi Lok Sabha was attacked by some Samajwadi Party activists in Bamer area of Babina assembly segment in Jhansi when he was protesting against rigging of polls in a booth.

Party sources here said Anirudh received deep cut injury on his leg and his car was smashed by the activists during the attack. Anirudh is the son of BSP candidate from Jhansi seat  Anuradha Sharma. The victim is also the son-in-law of BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra.

Later BSP has lodged a protest with the Election Commission (EC) over the incident and has demanded action against the culprits.

Similarly clashes took place in Bangarmau area of Unnao seat where supporters of BJP and SP clashes. Several people received head injury in the clash, sources said.
