Over 22K women’s rights violation cases filed this year

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has reported that it registered 16,584; 22,422; 32,118 and 22,292 cases of violation of women’s rights in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 (till date), respectively. 

The highest number of cases was registered in UP, followed by Delhi and Haryana. Many such cases relate to  domestic violence, outraging the modesty of women, dowry harassment, property dispute, rape, etc.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), meanwhile, has registered 3,369 complaints of violation of child rights under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005, during the last three years and in 2015-16. 

Action has been taken in most of the cases, including issuing summon hearings and giving directions and recommendations to the officials concerned, state governments, etc, Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi told the Lok Sabha on Friday.
