Outsiders have taken over BJP: Jaswant Singh

Sources said Singh was reportedly dumped for his anti-Reliance (Mukesh Ambani) view and pro-Nusli Wadia, Parsi textile magnate, stand. Many feel there was Reliance hand behind Singh for not getting the ticket. ‘I will decide what has to be done on 24 March after I talk to my supporters in Barmer,’ he said. ‘Outsiders have encroached upon the BJP. BJP is now a divided party.’ There are speculations that he might resign from the party and will field his son Manvendra Singh to contest from Barmer as an independent candidate.

Earlier, Singh had made it clear that he is keen on contesting from Barmer, which is his home constituency for the last time in these Lok Sabha elections. However, the BJP has declared Colonel Sona Ram Chaudhary, a former Congress leader belonging to the Jat community, as its candidate from Barmer.

Ever since Sonaram joined the party, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has been lobbying for a ticket for the Jat leader on the argument that Barmer has a large Jat population. It was learnt that Raje wanted to keep Jaswant out of the state anticipating yet another power centre if he goes on to win and then gets an important portfolio.
