Oppn wants complainant probed in Anwar case

Two days after Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was jailed for sodomising a former aide, an opposition party on Thursday demanded that his accuser be immediately probed by police for consensual sodomy. Anwar, who is one of the most potent threat to Prime Minister Najib Razak, began a 5-year prison sentence Tuesday after Malaysia's top court ruled there was overwhelming evidence against the 67-year-old leader. He has been convicted of sodomising his aide in the opposition campaign office in 2008, Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan, then 23. The ruling is a heavy blow to the Opposition.

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) demanded that Saiful be investigated for consensual sodomy.
Lim Lip Eng, an MP and a DAP member, said his supporters lodged a complaint with police in Kuala Lumpur, demanding that authorities launch an immediate investigation against Saiful, the Malaysian Insider reported.

"I give the police 24 hours to take legal action against Saiful. I want them to also answer whether there are elements of complicity or vice versa," said Lim. Lim said this follows a statement by Malaysian Bar chief Christopher Leong, who yesterday said "glaring anomalies" in Anwar's conviction?was feeding suspicion that his case was one of a political persecution rather than a criminal. The Bar president said the charge against Anwar was based on a provision of the Penal Code that has rarely been used.
