Oppn to bring no-confidence motion against Speaker

In a rare incident in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha history, the main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will bring a No -confidence motion against the Speaker of the House, Yoganand Shastri.

They alleged the Speaker denied  permission to discuss Lokayuktya’s
report against chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

The decision was taken in the meeting held by BJP legislative party soon after Shastri gave them marching orders from the House. The MLAs were protesting against Speaker’s decision to suspend the Question Hour and allow discussion on the death of five children, after a wall fell on them in Dallupura area of east Delhi.

The notice of discussion on the matter was demanded by the Congress benches, since illegal construction is checked by BJP-controlled MCD.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, V K Malhotra, alleged BJP had already given a notice to hold a discussion on the Delhi government’s decision to not implement Lokayukta’s recommendations, but instead of holding that discussion, Shastri gave in under government’s pressure and disallowed a debate on it.

‘You would be surprised to know that this legislative assembly has had 84 meetings (days) in four years so far and BJP members have been asked to go out of the House 40 times. Every time the government wants discussion on any issue of its choice that is unscheduled, the Speaker
always favours them,’ he said.
