Online sapling purchase now possible from Tall Tree Nursery in Rajarhat

The state forest department has set up the unique nursery on 7 acre land which is a joint venture of West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (WBHIDCO) and West Bengal Wasteland Development Corporation Ltd (WBWDCL).

There are nearly 13 lakh saplings of more than 129 types available at the nursery which has already got a tremendous response from the people from various parts of the state willing to buy various saplings while sitting at home. The buyers have to log on to the website ~ www.wbwdcl.com and can buy varieties of sapling that are available in the nursery.

State Forest Minister Binay Krishna Burman said that in case of bulk purchase, buyers from different parts of the state will be sent the saplings but in case of loose purchase the people have to come down at the nursery in Rajarhat. This nursery will also provide high quality seedlings for purchase by various private organisations and individuals. Many have said that that the new initiative will not only make the process of transaction easier but also bring transparency in the system.

The objective behind the creation of this nursery is to provide adequate number of tall saplings of 2 years and more and about 4 feet and above in height for plantation along boulevards, roadsides and at various premises in and around the city. WBWDCL believes that the “Tall Tree Nursery’ at Rajarhat will be a landmark institution for providing high quality planting material for creating green spaces in Kolkata and its suburbs.

“The saplings aged between 1-3 years are available in the nursery. People from the city and districts often require various types of saplings and they have to roam here and there to get the saplings. Apart from the individuals various private agencies who plant tress inside their office campus would be provided with the saplings. People can also get tall trees that have already grown up to 2-3 years,” Burman said.

He also said that people applying for bulk purchase would not require coming down to the nursery as they can place their order online and the sapling will be dispatched to them.

“The main purpose of the project is to lay emphasis on the plantation of trees throughout the state. The new project would undoubtedly attract the tree lover who plant trees on a regular basis. We would also encourage various agencies to participate in tree plantations. Our department has taken up a number of initiatives to strengthen the green movement by planting more trees,” Burman maintained.
