One more succumbs to dengue, toll touches 43

At a time when dengue cases in the city are on decline, the death of a 28-year-old man has reignited concerns among health officials.

With this death, the unofficial figure of dengue victims went up to 43. The official toll, however, stood at 32.

Sunil, a resident of Brahampuri in East Delhi died of dengue shock syndrome at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital yesterday.

“He was brought to the hospital in a critical condition on November 2 and had been undergoing treatment for dengue. He died yesterday evening,” said a senior doctor at RML Hospital.

The national Capital till now has recorded 14,889 cases of dengue, with over 7,200 of them being reported in October only, according to a municipal report released on Monday.

The dengue outbreak this year is the worst since 1996, when 10,252 cases and 423 deaths were reported.

Last year, the city had reported three deaths and recorded nearly 1,000 cases.

Till October 31, the number of houses found positive for mosquito breeding stands at 2,31,632, while the number of prosecution launched in the same period is nearly 23,000, according to the report.
