One more ‘Maoist’ arrested in capital

A suspected Communist Party of India (Maoist) member, allegedly a specialist in land mine blasts, was arrested by Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday. He is wanted for murder and other violent activities in Jharkhand, said police.
‘A suspected extremist, identified as Shiv Kumar alias Shiva alias Hero, an expert in weapon- handling, firearms and in preparation and blasting of improvised explosive device (IED), was arrested from Samaipur Badli area on Wednesday,’ said Sanjay Kumar Jain, Deputy Commissioner of police [crime].
Shiva has allegedly received indoctrination on Left-wing ideology in Saryu forest of Jharkhand and has been involved in several crimes, claimed Jain. He was hiding in Delhi at a relative’s house, after actions against Maoists gained momentum in November last year.
The police received a tip-off, and a team was deployed to nab Shiva. He was apprehended near Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in Samaipur Badli area. A sophisticated, 9-mm bore pistol along with two live rounds were recovered from his possession. He was booked under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act, said the officer.
On interrogation, it has been revealed that Shiva had joined the CPI [Maoist] Party in 2008, under the influence of a friend who was already a member of the party. He then married a girl, as advised by the mentors in the party. He was apparently a close associate of Ravinder, who is the area commander of the Narkopi region near Ranchi, Jharkhand, said Jain.
Class IX pass, Shiva has been trained in handling firearms and explosives. He learnt these skills in a year-long training in Jharkhand’s Lohar Daga village. He is an expert in long-range fire with the INSAS Rifle, the 303 rifle, the SLR and AK-47.
Police said, Shiva prefers bigger weapons and has also been trained to assemble and plant IEDs. He has used both kinds of landmines, manual and remote-controlled.
The remote-controlled IED is popularly known as ‘Arjuna-Krishna’. Arjuna indicates IED connection while Krishna indicates remote.
Shiva has also handled booby traps, or bombs disguised as luggage items. He disclosed that special classes on ideology, philosophy and themes of Left Wing Extremism were conducted to motivate the potential cadre in joining the ‘movement’.
He also revealed that the local guerrilla squad [LGS] is the main fighter wing, which is fully armed and also deals with landmines and traps. LGS carries out specific hits on security forces or resorts to kidnapping to generate income.
