One more arrested in Shrinu murder; two others for threatening state counsel

Police on Wednesday arrested one more person from Kharagpur in connection with the murder of Shrinu Naidu.

They also arrested two engineering students on Wednesday on charges of threatening the state’s counsel, Syed Nazim Habib, who was fighting Shrinu’s murder case.

Police said that acting on a tip-off, they conducted a raid at CME Gate in Kharagpur and arrested one Bala. Investigation had revealed that he was present at the meeting which was held at the house of Jon Francis on January 8 to chalk out the plan to kill Shrinu.

Bala had taken shelter in the house of a friend near CME Gate since the day Shrinu was murdered. On Wednesday, police came to know that he had been hiding there and conducted a raid at the hideout.

With the arrest of Bala, the total number of persons arrested in connection with the murder of Shrinu Naidu has gone up to nine. The nine persons include Shankar Rao and Francis. Both Rao and Francis are in the custody of the police at present.

Meanwhile, Hadiuz Jaman and Indrajit Bera were arrested for reportedly threatening the state’s counsel who was fighting the Shrinu murder case. Jaman and Indrajit are residents of Baliara in South 24 Parganas and Sundarnagar in Panskura, respectively.

Both the accused are students of an institute of technology. They were arrested after police traced their numbers from Habib’s phone, when they called to threaten him. Police will grill them to know whether they committed the crime at someone’s behest. The two were remanded in the custody of police for four days when produced before the court on Wednesday.

It may be mentioned that the wife of the counsel had received phone calls twice when the anonymous caller had told her that they would kill her husband if he opens his mouth.
