One killed, three injured after car rams into stationary truck

The accident took place at around 11.30 pm at Adchini traffic signal when a truck was stationed. Meanwhile, an over-speeding Maruti Suzuki Swift car came from behind and rammed into the truck. In fear, the driver of the truck fled from the spot leaving behind the vehicle, police said.

During the investigation it was learnt that all four of them were returning home from a dinner and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. After seeing the truck stationed, the driver could not apply brakes and rammed into the truck.

When a passer-by made a call to the police control room, a PCR van reached the spot and rushed all four occupants to Rockland hospital. Harbhajan, who used to work in an IT firm was declared brought dead while the injured, identified as Shubham Dua, his brother Aditya Ranjan and Sumit Rana were critically injured. The trio are undergoing treatment at hospital.

The siblings — Shubham Dua and Aditya Ranjan — used to work in the merchant navy and had came home on holiday. Sumit Rana is also an IT professional.

A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered at Vasant Vihar police station. In another incident in South Delhi, a speeding Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire car rammed into police barricades in Mahipalpur area, severely injuring a Delhi Police constable on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The incident took place when the police team deployed at the picket gave signal to the car to stop. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated the car and rammed into the barricades.

“Later, the accused was nabbed and was identified as Ashok, who was the driver of the car. He has been arrested and booked under Section 307(attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code,” said Nupur Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

The victim, constable Vikas received severe head injuries and fractures in his left leg and collar bone, the official said adding, he was taken to the nearby hospital for treatment. Further investigation is underway, police said.
