One killed, one injured in road accidents

A Public Works Department (PWD) office's private security guard died after being hit by a speeding car in Saket area of south district on Thursday morning. The deceased, identified as Sant Ram, was living at the office premises in Pushp Vihar along with a friend, Om Prakash. The duo left the office around 5.30 am when the incident took place, the police said.

When he came out of his office, Sant noticed the road divider grill had been broken. When he went to check, a car coming from Mehrauli hit him. He died on the spot after being crushed. Prakash claimed the errant driver was driving recklessly. He said Sant was dragged under the vehicle for around 20 m.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered against unidentified person at Saket police station. Sant's body would be handed over to his family after postmortem.

In a separate incident, a 42-year-old man was injured when the Scooty he was riding was rammed from behind by a speeding car in front of Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industries Jyotiraditya Scindia's residence. 

The injured, identified as George Fernandes, is a resident of Moti Bagh E-Block and works as a peon with Union Finance Ministry. He was returning home from his office at Lok Nayak Bhavan in Khan Market when the accident took place at around 10.30 pm on Safdarjung Road.

'He was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where his condition is said to be out of danger,' an official said.
