One gunned down, another injured after being shot at in broad daylight

A 28-year-old man was shot dead and his friend was reported to be critical after being shot at by a group of around eight men in broad daylight at south Delhi’s Lado Sarai area on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Sonu Sejwal, who worked in the room-service department of a five-star hotel and lived at a rented accommodation in Lado Sarai. The injured was identified as Sonu’s friend, Sandeep. Both were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where Sonu was declared brought dead and Sandeep was referred to a private hospital in South Delhi, said a police official. A police official said that from preliminary investigation, it seems like a case originating from a monetary issue. The victims had allegedly taken a loan from the accused and couldn’t return the money despite being reminded.

A case under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC was registered against unknown persons immediately at Mehrauli police station. According to a source, the incident happened at around 1.50 pm near the Lado Sarai T-point, where a group of persons arrived in two vehicles — a Skoda car and a Hyundai Verna. One of them, who was wearing a mask, deboarded the Skoda vehicle and opened fire on the duo without any warning. The assailant reportedly fired eight rounds and the victims were hit on their head and chest. The source further said, a few of the accused persons have been identified by the police and a team has been formed to nab them as soon as possible. However, their names were not disclosed. Also, a man named Neeraj has been detained in connection with this incident and he is being questioned by the police.
